eSight Launches New Blog to Tap Community Support for Job Seekers

New York, NY - February 24, 2005 - Mike Burks, a seasoned IT professional, is seeking a job.

He is eSight Careers Network's first selected "joblogger" to keep a diary of his job search journey on a new eSight service, a blog called Job Seeker's Network.

Launched February 23, 2005, Job Seeker's Network is located at http://www.tabinc.org/jsn/

More information about Burks and his IT career is available at http://www.esight.org/View.cfm?x=1759

"We encourage fellow job seekers, career counselors, HR people - anyone within the eSight community - to offer Mike encouragement and tips on Job Seeker's Network as he proceeds with his job search," says Nancy O'Connell.

O'Connell is executive director of The Associated Blind, Inc., New York City, which is the parent organization of eSight Careers Network (http://www.eSight.org).

This new blog is a resource for helping a joblogger such as Mike gain community insight about how to deal with tough barriers to disability employment at each step of the job hunting process. In addition, says O'Connell, it is "a forum for meeting other job seekers and potential employers."

Through such networking, members and non-members of eSight Careers Network, a free-registration site, can "showcase their communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills -- job skills needed in today's workplace," O'Connell points out.

She calls Job Seeker's Network an online alternative in meeting the career counseling needs of individuals with disabilities as vocation rehabilitation services cope with expected cuts in funding and services.

The Job Seeker's Network is part of "Swimming in the Mainstream: Topics in Workforce Development," a new eSight Careers Network service for producing a reservoir of pertinent, timely and accurate knowledge generated by individuals from the disability community about what it takes to join and advance in America's workplaces.

O'Connell urges individual bloggers or organizations with web sites to consider syndicating the Job Seeker's Network, so that by sharing our experiences, we can help each other find meaningful work. She can be contacted at 212-683-4950 (telephone) or at noconnell@tabinc.org (e-mail) for details.

The Associated Blind, Inc. (TAB), a 66-year-old non-profit organization, developed eSight Careers Network, an Internet community for information sharing and knowledge building among people with disabilities.
