The Associated Blind Selects New Executive Director

NEW YORK CITY - The Board of Directors for The Associated Blind, Inc., has appointed Nancy O'Connell as the organization's new executive director.

O'Connell previously held the position of Director of Content and Member Services for eSight Career Network, The Associated Blind's interactive Internet initiative at www.eSight.org which focuses on career management from a disability perspective.

In announcing O'Connell's appointment, Herbert R. Brinberg, chairman of The Associated Blind's board of directors and president of Parnassus Associates International, said The Associated Blind has recently relocated to 315 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, where it will continue to provide all existing venues such as eSight NetWork News, eSight Blindstorming, and eSight Member Net as well as create new opportunities for interactivity among niche audiences within its more than 3,000 registered members.

Brinberg said The Associated Blind's board of directors is committed to building on the success of its growing online career management resource, which was developed under the leadership of its past president, Ruth-Ellen Simmonds.

“eSight is becoming the resource on the Internet for employers who want to tap the potential they see in qualified job candidates who happen to have a disability,” Brinberg added.

Those who seek a step-by-step approach to finding employment can register for free on eSight at www.eSight.org. Visitors will find guidance to "Discover who you are" (Assessment); "Decide what to do" (Strategy); and extensive resources to help them "Choose how to do it" (Tactics)-- all from a disability perspective. Company representatives who want to communicate their commitment to hiring talent in the disabled community can call Nancy O'Connell at 212 683-4950 to arrange a visit to learn how eSight can help.

The Associated Blind, Inc., is a privately funded, 501 (c)(3) non-profit agency, founded in 1938 by blind individuals as an organization to promote autonomy and self-determination for those with visual impairments. The organization's eSight Careers Network, www.esight.org has become a premier provider of career management resources for individual job seekers, career counselors and job developers.
