Employment Background
Summary
I am a candidate who can offer experience from a fairly diverse background of career choices. After graduating college, I pursued my life-long dream of working as a freelance artist, specializing in wildlife illustration and graphic design. Then, I transitioned to a successful career as manager of two separate foodservice facilities. Presently, I am seeking employment or an independent business venture that will enable me to use the various skill sets I've acquired throughout the years.

Wildlife Illustrator And Graphic Designer
While growing up, there was really no question about my career choice. I wanted to be an artist. Wildlife and the outdoors have always been an important aspect of my life. Therefore, animals in beautiful scenery have been the dominant subject matter for most of my artwork. By the time I reached my early twenties, I was creating many original, realistic, highly detailed paintings. By age 23, I produced my first cover for a small Pennsylvania fishing publication. Subsequent commissions followed for the creation of inside and cover art for several small outdoor publications, such as "Pennsylvania Angler" and "Northeast Huntin' & Fishin'."
Although my commercial success has been quite modest, investing hundreds of hours creating these fine pieces of art enhanced my development of self-discipline, patience, and an unrelenting desire to achieve perfection. It is these acquired virtues that have positively impacted my later employment ventures and continue to do so today.

- Wild Turkeys, (Bowhunter's Challenge)
First Place Award, Wyoming Valley Art League
A brilliantly colored tom turkey sneaks out from behind a pile of rocks, unsuspectingly into the path of a fully camouflaged bowhunter, awaiting his prey. The male turkey is the main subject, about to take a cautious step, while the head and upper body of a female turkey is visible, following him closely behind. This is an autumn setting, colorful leafy foreground, with interesting rock formations in the background, surrounding the bowhunter.

- Cottontail Rabbits
A mature cottontail rabbit chews on a dandelion leaf while standing next to a brush pile, (visible as an eye-catching back-drop to this lush, sunny, spring setting. Two baby bunnies can be easily spotted in the background, (one grazing, the other, sitting still), surrounded by lots of greenery, each blade of grass becoming more detailed toward the foreground. The sky is sunny, with interesting cloud formations, and green trees fading off in the distance.

- Walleye Under Ice
Published By Pennsylvania Angler,
Special Ice Fishing Newsletter, (Cover)A hefty-sized walleye is depicted snaching an ice fisherman's minnow, clearly visible in the fish's mouth. Twisting in the water, line taut, the battle begins. This walleye has highly detailed features rendered in shades of browns and gold, mouth slightly open exposing sharp teeth and of course, the very prominent eye. A cleanly cut hole in the ice is shown at the top, from where the fishing line is extended. Bluish-grays provide the backdrop for this icy, dark, underwater scene.

- Winter Night Whitetails
A beautiful buck stands in the foreground looking towards the viewer, while two doe can be seen in the background, (one grazing on a tree limb, another standing). The setting is a snowy landscape as depicted on a cold, moonlit night. Although realistic, the wintery surroundings are stylized to reflect the mood. The snowy terrain surrounding these whitetail deer is enveloped in varying shades of blues and grays. A full moon overhead, peeking behind clouds and a warm, yellow light glowing from the window of a rustic cabin in the distance compliment this chilly setting nicely.

- Portrait of a Cheetah
A portrait of a young cheetah was created from a detailed personal photograph captured while visiting the Philadelphia zoo. The Cheetah's yellow, orangish brown finely detailed fur texture and large, orange-brown, bright eyes, contrast brilliantly with the cheetah's distinctive black spots and markings around the snout.

Foodservice Manager/Proprietor
After graduating from the Pennsylvania Business Enterprise training program in early 1988, I operated two separate foodservice locations. From September 1988 to July 1993, I managed a small facility within a clothing manufacturing company located in the small town of Taylor, just outside of Scranton, PA.
In June 1993, I was promoted to manage the foodservice facility within the Labor and Industry Building in Harrisburg, PA.
Within each of these two locations, I was responsible for every facet of management. I worked as a very hands-on manager involved with many of the physical aspects associated with running a foodservice operation (which included serving as main cashier, brewing/serving coffee, filling condiments, checking and stocking orders, supervising four employees and maintaining a rigorous cleaning schedule). I also coordinated all clerical aspects, such as maintaining daily reports and profit-loss statements, conducting monthly inventories, planning and publishing weekly menu specials and preparing/telephoning all merchandise and supply orders.
As in my career as an artist, I was able to apply my self-disciplined, labor-intense management style to assure strict sanitation; quality food; a diverse, creative menu; and excellent customer rapport. That resulted in increased monthly gross sales of 40 percent over any prior management.
After 13 years as a self-employed business person, in June 2001, I decided to change my career direction by combining my newly acquired customer service skills with technology and applying them to a slower-paced, more-defined area of interest.
The period between 2001 and the present has been one of much personal growth in terms of learning basic computer and adaptive technologies as well as uncovering my strengths for my further career development. As I embark on the exciting journey of discovering a new chapter in my career, I feel very empowered with this new, self-enriching knowledge that may be beneficial in other fields of interest, for which I believe I possess a natural aptitude (such as writer, braille, or medical transcriptionist. I am also contemplating an entrepreneurial venture that may involve launching a web-based art reproduction business.
Within the online environment, I will strive to distinguish myself as someone who is adaptable to vastly different professions, as proven in my commercial art and foodservice management careers, guided by an innately strong work ethic that demonstrates character, commitment, and reliability - and that yields, most critically, "positive results."
