NYC Sector Initiatives Forum

Thursday, March 27, 2008
1:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Come gain an in-depth understanding of what it takes to launch or grow a sector initiative from the following national sector experts:

Jack Mills, Director of the National Network of Sector Partners

Tom DuBois, Workforce Programs Director of Instituto del Progreso Latino in Chicago
Mary Peña, Executive Director of Project QUEST in San Antonio, Texas.

In addition, learn how your organization can create or expand its own sector initiative by participating in upcoming New York City-based training and technical assistance.

Sector initiatives are a unique approach to workforce development that target and engage specific industries by creating innovative workforce solutions that benefit both workers and businesses. Sector initiatives have created career pathways and huge income gains for low-wage workers as well as bottom-line benefits for employers. Growing from just a couple of dozen boutique projects ten years ago to over 200 today, sector strategies are gaining fast momentum among public and private funders at the national, state, and local levels – including current programs and future opportunities in New York City and New York State.
