What is it?
An exciting opportunity for individuals who are blind or visually impaired (adults and youth, age 16 and above) to sharpen employment skills, develop networking strategies, and gain hands-on experience with the latest assistive technologies. A diverse array of programming includes:
- Seminars on employment legislation, advocacy, and benefits planning;
- Panel discussions on career development, financial management, and entrepreneurship;
- Workshops on interviewing techniques, resume writing, and online job-seeking strategies; and
- An Exhibit Hall where vendors, service providers and assistive technology experts will showcase their products and services.
What is the cost?
The FULL registration fee (for consumers who are visually impaired) is only $25.00! (Scholarships are available.) This includes lodging, meals, workshops, seminars, and admission to the Exhibit Hall. Roundtrip bus transportation to and from the Institute will also be provided, leaving from West 23rd Street in Manhattan on Wednesday evening, and returning on Sunday afternoon. Rehab professionals, educators, and vendors should call for specific pricing information.
When and where is it held?
Wednesday evening, July 25 through Sunday afternoon, July 29, 2007 at VISIONS VCB, a 35 acre campus, in nearby Rockland County, NY.
Who should attend?
- Any person who is blind or visually impaired and wants to improve their employment skills, find a new job or advance in their career.
- Youth Track offered for individuals ages 16-21 who are still in high school or who participate in the VISIONS prevocational program through the New York State Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped (CBVH).
- Vocational rehabilitation counselors, educators, and other interested professionals.
