IL NET Presents High-Impact CILs: Supercharging Your Mission! An Introduction to Entrepreneurship in Independent Living
June 12-14, 2007
Houston, Texas
Crowne Plaza, Downtown Houston
Come join us in Houston to learn everything you need to know about mission-driven entrepreneurship!
Entrepreneurship isn't creeping up only in the Independent Living Movement: non-profits and advocacy organizations all over the country have begun to develop for-profit ventures to bolster their organizations and better carry out their missions. The opportunity for CILs and other IL organizations to develop or acquire businesses has arrived. Let's not let it pass!
Please join us in Houston for this introduction to Entrepreneurship in Independent Living. Our accomplished trainers will teach you how to prepare yourself, your center, board, and staff to pursue for-profit activities. Whether it's four months or four years away, we've got the tools you'll need to assess your ability to start a business to support your mission.
Learning Objectives: *Why pursue entrepreneurial activities? *Is our Center ready for entrepreneurship? *What types of activities or programs are appropriate for our Center and how can we be sure they support our mission? *How do we research markets, prepare business plans, and design other successful development activities? *OK, we're sold. How do we prepare our Center for this big step?
Who Should Attend? This training will be geared towards Executive Directors, Board Officers, and other key staff and board members from Centers for Independent Living. IL Associations and independent 501(c)(3) SILCs interested in entrepreneurship will also find it useful. The training is intended solely for stable CILs / organizations with solid infrastructures, consumer services, and sound board and community relations. Due to the elaborate content presented in this training, we strongly recommend that participating organizations send two or more individuals.
Meet Your Trainers: Andy Robinson has been raising money for social change since 1980. As a trainer and consultant, he has assisted nonprofits in forty states and in Canada, leading workshops on fundraising, grantwriting, board development, strategic planning, marketing, and earned income strategies. He is a former columnist for the "NonProfit Times," a regular contributor to the "Grassroots Fundraising Journal," and the author of "Grassroots Grants: An Activist's Guide to Proposal Writing."
Burt Danovitz, PhD. is the Executive Director of Resource Center for Independent Living of Utica, New York. Burt has worked to grow a small non-profit to a multi-million dollar operation, serving an urban and rural mix of thousands, with significant policy input. Funding relationships with over a 100 sources have integrated the IL philosophy with securing core service funds that far exceed designated IL funding. He served on a New York Senate Task Force, resulting in passage of a new nursing home diversion waiver and in collaboration with various partners, organized an effort to advance legislation that removes the institutional bias of government funding. RCIL has multiple sites and six corporations, including one for-profit LLC.
